“Slava Ukraine!” Murdered on the Carolina Express
I’m an old-school, Peter Ustinov, chain smokers, wax mustachioed, hard-back book, Agatha Christie fan. Nerdy as charged. But Agatha darling, would not be pleased with how our reality emulates her famed work of fiction.
Murder on the Orient Express.
A single man, found dead on a luxury train. A dozen suspects.
The “gray matter” of the great Hercule Poirot uncovers the shocking truth: they all did it. One man died at the hands of many.
North Carolina gave us a real-life sequel LAST MONTH. Last month. And you heard not a word until the video was made public last week.
It’s not at all a mystery. A lone woman—an artist, a 23-year-old Ukrainian refugee named Iryna Zarutska—stabbed to death in an unprovoked attack aboard a Charlotte light rail train. The suspect? Decarlos Brown Jr.: 34 years old, known to mental health authorities, homeless, with 14 prior arrests—arrests that ended in release, again and again, due to “cashless bail” and feckless courts.
This wasn’t a mystery. This was murderous collusion—between progressive policy and the criminal they put on the train.
Who are all the other truly guilty parties here?
Many Hands on the Knife
If Christie were crafting this story, she’d line up these suspects along the platform:
-
Judges and magistrates who released a man with schizophrenia, robbery convictions, and erratic behavior, even after a court-ordered mental health evaluation was never completed.
-
Lawmakers who dismantled bail as a “justice reform,” giving “written promises” and empty supervision priority over public safety.
-
Advocates who packaged crime as a “systemic failing,” insisting man is inherently good so we must treat violent offenders like victims.
-
City officials and gatekeepers who urge “compassion,” even when the cost is a knife plunging into a refugee’s neck. Charlotte’s mayor initially begged for restraint, highlighting mental illness and homelessness—before shifting into crisis mode after backlash.
Each one gripping the handle. Each one plunging the knife deeper.
The reality is as grotesque as the metaphor: our leaders would rather risk citizens being murdered in cold blood than risk contradicting their ineffectual, illogical, and evil ideologies. And when a Ukrainian refugee dies because of their choices? The solution is not reform. It’s silence.
Sound familiar? Mere days ago, the mayor of Minneapolis lamented “the hate that might be directed at the trans community”…after a trans-woman…so a man… gunned down children.
The Silence Is the Tell in this Tale
Elected officials begged for the video of this young woman’s murder not to be shown. Why? Because they know. Blind and dumb, they can still see how bad this looks…because of how bad this is.
Deep down, they know the footage is damning. It slashes the imagined world they’ve built — a world where the insane are “safe” to roam free, where violent offenders are “rehabilitated” by revolving doors, where prisons are the problem instead of the people who fill them.
This is the tell: If the truth supports your narrative, you show it everywhere. If it destroys your narrative, you bury it.
And here’s where the hypocrisy really burns. The left loves identity politics. They see themselves as the hero of the oppressed. They champion Ukraine in abstract, write blank checks to Kyiv, cheer themselves as “the Avengers” on the world stage.
“Slava Ukraine!”–cry the leftists.
But when a real Ukrainian refugee, a flesh and blood woman, ends up dead on American soil because of their failed policies? Crickets. Silence. Blackout. Could someone move the body so we can get back to blasting Trump for making DC safe?
Everyone loves the refugee… until the refugee’s cause of death points back to progressive policies. Then suddenly, she’s forgotten. She became invisible the second her death revealed their deeds. A tragic inconvenience.
No One Is Safe on This Crazy Train
We’ve seen illegal immigrants commit crimes, be released, and kill. Now we see native repeat offenders released, preying on immigrants. There are no winners here. No safe category. Not the citizen, not the refugee, not the child, not the mother walking home from work. All of us are passengers and potential victims on this crazy train.
And that is the real, true crime: Iryna Zarutska, who survived the war and bombs of Russia–could not survive the “mostly peaceful” leftist policies of America.
Choo, choo, y’all. All aboard!! Isn’t it so fun living in the glamorous world of “Defund the police and defend the perpetrators?!”
Their criminal justice kills.
Their social justice endangers.
Their economic justice robs.
Go figure.
But don’t you dare send The Guard to Chicago. Somone might survive “The L.”
