Stay Gold Don: Idol Worship or Idle Gossip?

Trump built a 22-foot statue of himself in gold and had it placed in the National Mall and requires his administration and soon the citizens of America to bow before it in worship.

That’s what they would have you believe.

The people who hate God and His worshippers, who can’t recognize why having PRIDE month all year long, lighting the White House with rainbow colors, and allowing trans-women to bare their “breasts” on the lawn of the “People’s House is foolish…know idolatry when they see it?  LOL. That is just perfection.

Doth the Spirit within you find offense?? I mean, it didn’t when you redefined marriage, defied created order and gender, and continue to “shout your abortions,” but NOW you have a swell of righteous indignation? You have drawn so near His glory, that everything contemptable cries out to be smashed?

Okie dokie. Isaiah. You will excuse me while I remain unflapped and unmoved…like a statue even, on this.

It’s May in America, students. I have two more weeks of school to survive, and I refuse to be baited into outrage or shame over a non-issue.

 

DON COLOSSUS

The statue, affectionately called, “Don Colossus,” is gold-leaf over bronze. Fact.

And it is 22-feet tall, including its 7-ft pedestal. Fact.

It was commissioned and bought by others. Fact.

It was placed at Trump National Doral Golf Course. Fact

Now…would I have a golden statue of myself in my yard? Nah, probably not.

But I also haven’t built a real-estate empire, defied the odds and expectations of elections, defeated the political mammoth of the uni-party, and survived three assassination attempts.

I’m not a fan of the gold leaf…but of all the people that should probably have a statue made to honor their impact or achievements? You’re a liar if Donald Trump isn’t on that list.

 

MONUMENTS MEN

Heck, I’d make a statue myself and I’d put it right next to the statue of Maduro being “kingnapped” in his jammies. You can’t tell me that wasn’t peak brass. Or bronze with gold leaf.

Dolly Parton has a statue at DollyWorld. Michael Jordan has a statue in front of the United Center. There’s Rocky Balboa. Will Rogers…

Culturally, we honor people with statues and commissioned art. It’s not new. Celebrities. Political figures. Yes, even presidents.

Reagan has a statue. Biden. Clinton.

 

Even Obama has a few statues…around the world. LOL. That’s funny because one of his statues was taken down after those childhood connections proved inconvenient. Guess where it was.

Jakarta.

Donald Trump would laugh at that.

 

STAY GOLD DON

So, is it because it’s gold? I say again…it’s not my vibe. But strangely it is exactly Trump’s. This isn’t the first gold statue to be called a brazen altar. Have you forgotten the hideous, but hilarious, gold statue that was wheeled out at CPAC in 2021? As a “Woman of the Word,” I absolutely remember thinking it was giving Nebuchadnezzar.

But without the idol worship. Which is a pretty necessary ingredient if you’re going to claim “Idolatry!” and “Cultish!”

A statue was placed at his golf course. They had a dedication ceremony. Period. It is not the Victor Noir monument in Paris where people touch his “parts” for good luck. No one is slipping prayer requests in his golden trouser pockets.

But when you hate the person so badly, you hate everything about the person. You hate that someone would dare to honor them. You hate that you haven’t yet succeeded in shaming them and anyone who regards them kindly.

I’d rather have a president whose aesthetic leans “Saudi prince,” with a need for appreciation–than Obama, whom the media deified though he accomplished nothing except harm.

 

We actually should be having conversations about idolatry. But the idols we cherish are a lot harder to spot than a giant golden statue. They are the things we will die and divide over.

Like politics.

Like allowing a right-wing president to govern.
