Politics is Giving Christians Common Ground…Or it Should Be

We are only seventeen days into Trump Term 2.0. I need a nap. There is so much breaking news every day, it can be overwhelming and hard to keep up. But take heart–there is a silver lining. In the burning down and churning up, the many facets and faces of Christendom is finding common ground on important issues. Or it should be.

Using taxpayer dollars to export radical LGBTQ ideology to other nations? That’s a no-brainer. The Church should be against this. Especially, when done in the name of humanitarian aid.

Uncovering deceptive and unwise spending? This is a good thing that we should not fear.

Protecting and preserving equal opportunity in sports for girls and women by disallowing males to compete against them? Y’all. Come on.

This should be the clearest, easiest opportunity for enthusiastic agreement. Is it??

Do you find yourself without hesitation or reluctance, without fear or shame…able to see and understand that there are but two sexes? Male and female. Not according to politics, but according to God. Do you find yourself certain God’s best for us includes living with honesty, humility, and transparency–surrendered to HIS WILL? Do you know without a doubt that when we choose a reality that God has not ordained for us or defy His creative authority over our hearts, minds, or flesh we are choosing to walk in idolatrous pride and rebellion?

If Scripture is clear–and it is. The Church should be clearer. The Church should be a confident, calm, and clarifying voice in the chaos.

I know the headlines are catchy right now with each Executive Order or each revelation about where and how money is spent. But in the midst of such saturated news days, we are in danger of missing the bigger story.

Principalities of darkness, deceit, corruption, and perversion have been long organized in opposition to God’s creation. And a quiet, apathetic, people-pleasing Church has allowed them to be successful.

Between money and media, politics and propaganda, the enemy has created a false reality–complete with false narratives, false motivations, false rewards and gain, false righteousness and false virtue, false support, false wisdom, false love and false compassion for the TRULY hurting.

But even more dangerous…false worship of a false God.

Our identity is in Christ.

Our sexuality is in Christ.

Our life is in Christ and it requires the death of our flesh, not domination by our flesh.

The absolute arrogance of believing and living as though God has erred in how He made us and requires our help and intervention for us to be happy and whole is destroying lives, bodies, and nations. This is wickedness. We should be so clear on this. This is not muddy or mirky territory.

Friend, if you are grieving or annoyed that light is shining in dark places, that lies are being revealed by truth, that confusion is being tamed by wisdom…think deeply about why that is.

Who is your Lord and who is your King?

Is it Christ or culture? Are you more worried about what “they” will think about you or what HE ABSOLUTELY KNOWS. If Christ is your King, then you long for holiness over happiness, obedience to HIS WORD over observation of the world’s ways–their sinful sacraments and pagan practices.

If Christ is your King, be braver, be bolder, walk in truth and speak in love.
